One of the newest diet fads in the marketplace today is the acai berry diet. Acai is pronounced ah-sigh-ee. Proponents for the acai berry diet claim among other things that it increases the metabolism in the body to help get rid of excess fat in the body. Of course they are referring to the acai berry not the acai berry diet pills or supplements they are actually selling but making the same claim for the supplement. In some cases these claims may be out and out scams. |

For a while now there has been a debate as to whether or not antioxidants play a role in the anti-aging process. Many natural health experts, as well as myself, believe that antioxidants are one of the best anti-aging nutrients out there. The idea that antioxidant anti-aging is effective has been debated by some because there is not any concrete proof that antioxidants slow the aging process. The lack of proof is due to the fact that the physical results are not immediate so providing a direct link between an antioxidants and anti-aging is hard to do. |

The genus is named after the muse Euterpe of Greek mythology. Euterpe are tall, slender palms growing to 15 to 30 meters, with pinnate leaves up to 3 meters long. Many of the palms that were once in the genus Euterpe have been reclassified into the genus Prestoea (Riffle, 2003). The species Euterpe oleracea is usually called Acai Palm, after the Portuguese derivation of the Tupian word acai was fruit that cries or expels water. |
